By Tim Mitchell
Version 1.2
---- I N T R O D U C T I O N ----
I have "SPEED CALL 30" as offered by my telephone company, it allows me
call up someone using only two digit numbers that I have assigned. The system
is able to keep up to thirty phone numbers, and I can dial them from any
phone in the house. It's much faster than an ordinary memory phone that sends
all the tones of the number after selection.
I keep a list of my "Speed Call" numbers next to my phone, this list
also contains additional numbers since I know a lot more than thirty people.
The folks on the "Speed Call" list are the people that I call more often. Now
if you have "Speed Calling" then you know all of that already.
Every two or three months or so I need to update my phone list, I don't
call someone as often, I've meet someone new or a number had changed. To
recopy up to 75 numbers onto another sheet of paper is both no fun and
mistakes are easy to make. I sat down one day to update my calling list, and
decided to write a program to do the job for me. Three days later I had my
new phone list coming out of my printer. I never intended to offer it as
Shareware but it looked good and a lot of people have "Speed Call 30". Enough
about me, I'm sure that you want to know what this silly program can do for
you.
There are two lists of names and phone numbers that can be entered and
kept for you on disk. The first list is 30 entries long and is the actual
Speed Calling list. The other list is 44 entries long and is for any
Additional numbers that won't fit on the Speed Call List. After all of your
names and numbers have entered they are saved to disk and can be printed out
on your printer. The next time you run the program your previous entries will
still be there for easy editing or printing.
This program is very easy to use, instructions are not really necessary
but are included here as a curtesy.
----- I N S T R U C T I O N S -----
When the program is started, your information is read off of the disk
and the following Menu is displayed . . .
> S < - Change SPEED Calling List
> A < - Change ADDITIONAL Numbers List
> P < - PRINT Out Your Phone List
> Q < - QUIT this Silly Program
> D < - Save it All to DISK
Press the letter of the Menu selection that you want.
Selection ">D<-Save to DISK" will only appear if changes have been made.
> S < - Change SPEED Calling List
> A < - Change ADDITIONAL Numbers List
Selection of either of these will take you to the list that they
describe. The Speed Calling list has 30 entries and is numbered from 20 to
49, this relates to the numbering that the phone company uses with Speed
Calling. The Additional Numbers list has 44 entries and is numbered from 50
to 93, this numbering is used for ease of program operation. Numbering from 1
to 19 is not used.
Enter the number of the Item that you want to add or edit. A cursor will
appear next to the number that you selected. Add a new entry or Edit the
entry if it already exists. Make use of "Insert, Delete or Backspace" keys as
needed. When you're satisfied with what you've got press > ENTER <, You may
now select another Item to change or press the "END" key to return to the
Main Menu.
> P < - PRINT Out Your Phone List
After choosing this selection the program will display a message saying
that it's ready to print your list, and will wait till any key is pressed
before printing starts. Adjust the printer paper up to the top of the Print
Head and make sure the printer is on and online before starting a Printout.
Your Phone List will use exactly one sheet of paper. Todays date will be
printed at the top of the page so an old list can be easy to spot. The
numbering that was used in the "Additional Numbers List" will not be printed
since they won't be accepted by the "Speed Calling" system.
If a problem is encountered while printing, a message will appear at the
bottom of the screen indicating what the problem is and you will be asked if
you want to Abort printing or Retry.
> Q < - QUIT this Silly Program
This selection will stop the program from running and return you to
D O S. If changes have been made to any of your entries, they will be saved
to disk before the program Quits.
> D < - Save it All to Disk
This selection will only appear if changes have been made to any of your
entries. Changes are Saved to Disk whenever you Quit the program, but there
are times that you might want to go ahead and Save them before exiting the
program.
----- M O R E I N F O R M A T I O N -----
A Screen Saver will automatically turn on if no Key is pressed for 7
or 8 minutes. A screen saver will prevent the words from burning into your
monitor because they have been displayed for such a long time. To continue
with the program, press any key and you will be returned to where you were
when the Screen Saver took over.
If You have any Questions, Comments or Problems, feel free to contact me
and tell me what you have on your mind. Also, Shareware works through
contributions to the program author for the work that is required to produce
something that you are using. If you use this program to make your phone
lists then I'm happy, but if you sent me $5 then I would be REAL HAPPY !
